Ever since I was diagnosed with Bipolar I Disorder, it has come to my attention that strikingly few actually know what bipolar is. Bipolar I Disorder is made up of alternating phases of either extreme depression, or mania while the patient struggles to keep it level in the middle.
When I say extreme depression, I mean it too. I have hospitalized myself four times because of it. You don’t have the energy to do anything. Not even shower or eat.
While mania is described as an on top of the world feeling, it actually really sucks. You go on huge spending sprees, become reckless, and have energy that makes it so you can not sleep for five straight days.
So when you simply change your mind, or switch your decision last minute, please stop saying it is bipolar. It creates a stigma that damages us.
