Interviews are one of the toughest things I have ever had to go through. I absolutely hate them as I am not a “people person”. So following are some of the trickier questions with some advice for answering them:
- Tell me about yourself?:
- Talk about personal characteristics and skills that translate into career strengths. Typically, the yare looking for an overview of your related experience. Provide an answer that shows a logical progression throughout your educational/professional career.
- What are your greatest strengths?:
- Be careful here as your answer will also reflect your values. Whatever you choose, be sure to have an example you can reference prepared.
- What is your greatest weakness?:
- Admit to your weakness, but then describe the steps you are taking to fix it.
- What were your favorite subjects in school and why?:
- Mention anything that shows keen interests in this employer’s particular kind of work.
- Why change jobs now?:
- They want to know your reasons behind leaving prior employment, and also see that you stay positive about the future.
- What makes you stand out when compared to your peers?:
- Give some examples of times you have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
- What type of management/supervision do you prefer?:
- It all boils down to one thing, are you able to be managed by people who work in different styles?
- What do you like about your current position? What would you add to make it more challenging?:
- Here they are looking for relevant experience in the position offered.
- Where do you see yourself in (X) years?:
- Here, interviewers ensure that your goals are realistic and that you aren’t too realistic.
- Why should we hire you for this position?:
- Focus on prior experience, achievements, and what makes you better than your peers.
- What books/magazines do you read?:
- This tells them a little bit about your personality.
- What interests you most about this position?:
- stress the fact that this is a dynamic move, and would help tremendously in advancing your career.
- Do you work well under pressure?:
- Provide an example in which you have done so
- If you could change one thing about your personality, what would it be, and why?:
- Make the answer positive, and in reference to your attitude and determination.
